Last month, Spanish smartphone maker Geeksphone in collaboration with Silent Circle announced the Blackphone – a smartphone that’s designed to provide users with security features to keep one’s anonymity online.
Today, the Blackphone’s specs are revealed as the phone goes officially available for pre-order. The phone will have a 4.7-inch HD IPS display, a 2GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage. The phone will also have an 8MP camera at the back as well as LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0 and GPS.
The security aspect of the phone is ensured by software installed on the device. These include a number of Silent Circle’s apps for making phone calls and sending text messages as well as a couple of security features like a built-in firewall and a remote wipe function.
The phone will retail for US$629 and will start shipping in June. Those interested in getting the device can already pre-order the smartphone through the company’s online store.
