BBM To Branch Out Into A BlackBerry Spinoff

BlackBerry’s highly anticipated instant messaging app BBM is expected to launch in a few weeks but it appears that BlackBerry still has a few surprises up its sleeve. According to a recent report by the Wall Street Journal, the Canadian smartphone manufacturer is considering the idea of spinning BBM into a subsidiary to be called as BBM Inc.

According to a recent report by the Wall Street Journal, the Canadian smartphone manufacturer is considering the idea of spinning BBM into a subsidiary to be called as BBM Inc. The plan is said to make BBM a more valuable asset as the company moves towards a potential sale.

There are also speculations that some of the features of the app will be improved further such as the Channels and video chat feature. Moreover, the WSJ adds that a desktop version of the IM app may also be in the works. At present a number of reports have indicated that the messaging app will soon be jumping over to iOS and Android, initially on Samsung Galaxy devices and in Africa.
