Back in BlackBerry’s BBLive Event last May, the Canadian smartphone manufacturer announced that it will soon bring its highly popular instant messaging app, BBM to other platforms such as Android. The initial schedule for the release of the multi-platform BBM was July but according to BlackBerry India’s managing director, Sunil Lalvani, the app’s release will be pushed back to September.
And it looks like we’ll actually be seeing a September release for the app as BlackBerry has already sent out invites to select Android users for the app’s beta testing. The invites have already rolled out to members of the BlackBerry Beta Zone, which according to BlackBerry are friends and relatives of their employees.
The beta testers are required to use Android 4.0+ devices only, so it’s almost a given that devices before ICS will not be supported once the app is released. At present, all beta tester slots have already been taken but you can still head to BlackBerry’s website and sign up for an alert once the app becomes officially available.
