Asus Unveils Their FonePad-PadFone Infinity Duo At MWC

Asus was one of the major names at the 2013 Mobile World Congress that made an announcement about their latest devices scheduled for release this year.

The first device highlighted in the event was the Asus Fonepad. It is a competitively priced 7-inch tablet that runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is powered by the new 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Z2420 processor. The tablet supports telephony and mobile data at speeds of up to 21 Mbps.

The Fonepad has 1 GB of RAM and comes in either an 8GB or 16GB variant with support for microSD card expansion. The device’s 7-inch IPS LCD screen packs a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels with 10-point multi-touch.

It also comes with a 3MP rear camera with autofocus and 720p HD video recording. A secondary 1.2MP camera is placed in front of the Fonepad for self-portraits and video calls.

The Asus Fonepad and its accessories will be available globally from March 2013 for around US$249.

Asus also unveiled the newest member of their PadFone series – the PadFone Infinity. The Padfone Infinity is a 5-inch full HD smartphone with LTE that is powered by a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB of RAM.

It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and comes in either 32GB or 64GB models. There’s a 13MP camera at the back of the device with autofocus and LED flash, while a 2MP camera sits in front of the device for video calls. Its 5-inch Super IPS+ LCD screen has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with a pixel density of 441 ppi. The screen has also has 10-point multi-touch and is protected by a Gorilla Glass panel.

And just like its predecessors, the Padfone Infinity comes with a docking station that effectively converts the smartphone into a 10.1-inch tablet. The Asus Padfone Infinity will be available in Taiwan from April and selected other countries from early Q2 2013 at around 999 euros with the Infinity Station.
