Asus has confirmed its Taichi PC laptop will be available through JB Hi Fi, Harvey Norman, Bing Lee, Dick Smith Electronics, BSR, the Good Guys, Retravision, Radio Rentals, Costco and RT Edwards on January 21.
Originally slated for release in October 2012, the flagship Windows 8 device was delayed locally due to a global supply shortage.
"All retailers are now expected to have stock by 21st January," said an Asus spokesperson.
The Asus Taichi is a tablet/laptop hybrid running Microsoft's new touch-friendly operating system Windows 8. It features dual 11.6in full HD IPS displays on either side of the laptop lid, and can be used as either a dual-screened laptop or tablet device.
It offers a third-generation Core i5 or Core i7 processor from Intel, 4GB of DDR3 memory, integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 and up to 256GB of SSD storage. It also comes with a pair of USB 3.0 ports and a backlit keyboard. The unit weighs in at 1.25kg and measures 3mm at its thinnest point. Battery life is rated at three hours in tablet mode and "up to" five hours in laptop mode.
It is priced from AU$1,599 for the Core i5 version and $1,899 for the Core i7 version.
