ASUS announces Apple-inspired ZenWatch 2

ASUS yesterday announced the ZenWatch 2, a seemingly Apple-inspired wearable. Powered by Android Wear, the ZenWatch 2 is a stainless-steel smartwatch available in a choice of three colours: silver, gunmetal and rose gold. Like the Apple Watch, ASUS' new wearable will also come in two sizes – 49mm or 45mm tall – which will be compatible with 22mm and 18mm watch bands respectively.

The ZenWatch 2 will launch with a wide range of ASUS-made straps, including rubber, leather and stainless steel options.   A Swarovski-accented leather band will be made available for those looking for something a little more bling.

ASUS says it has completely overhauled its "Wellness" app, which will allow the ZenWatch 2 to work as a fully-featured activity tracker that can also log activities such as a running and cycling. Other new features include a crown-like button, magnetic charging and IP67 waterproofing.

ASUS is yet to confirm the ZenWatch 2's hardware specifications, pricing or availability.

Despite being unveiled in September last year, ASUS' first ZenWatch only went on sale in Australia this April.
