Apple refreshes 15-inch MacBook Pro, introduces cheaper iMac with Retina Display

Apple today quietly introduced new models of its 15-inch MacBook Pro, and iMac with Retina 5K display.

The MacBook Pro now features a Force Touch trackpad, previously only available on the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the new MacBook. The trackpad, introduced earlier this year, is a new pressure-sensitive design that delivers haptic feedback when clicked.

The updated notebook comes with improved flash storage that performs up to two and a half times faster than the previous generation. It also boasts an additional hour of battery life, providing up to nine hours of wireless web browsing or iTunes movie playback.

Rounding out the list of changes is a new discrete graphics card, the AMD Radeon R9 M370X, available on the high-end model.

Apple also introduce a new entry-level iMac with Retina 5K display that has lower technical specifications and a cheaper starting price of AUD$2,799. This model includes a 1TB traditional hard drive rather than the faster Fusion Drive, and has a slightly slower 3.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor.

The 3.5GHz iMac with Retina 5K display now starts at AUD$3,199, up from the previous price of AUD$2,999.
