Angry Birds, the video game franchise created by Finnish game developer Rovio Entertainment is making a leap in to the world of animation.

Rovio Entertainment has announced today that they will take advantage of Angry Birds’ huge mobile game network to distribute the new Angry Birds video game cartoon series.  To be specific, Rovio will launch the animated cartoon series in a video distribution channel in all of its Angry Birds games on smartphones and tablets starting this weekend, March 16-17.

The videos will also be available on select video-on-demand (VOD) providers, smart TVs, and on other TV networks around the world. Rovio said it has partnered with a number of third-party video distributors including Comcast’s Xfinity, Samsung Smart TVs and Roku boxes.

Meanwhile, on TV, the Angry Birds Toons will air on Jei TV in Korea, ANTV in Indonesia, Cartoon Network in India, MTV3 Junior and MTV3 in Finland, the Children’s Channel in Israel, 1+1 networks in Ukraine, Gulli and Canal J in France, SUPER RTL in Germany, TV2 in Norway, Canal 13 in Chile, Gloob in Brazil and on FOX8 here in Australia.

The series will have 52 weekly episodes starting on Saturday on TV which will be released the next day in the Angry Birds apps and VOD platforms.

The Angry Birds Games have been downloaded more than 1.7 billion times across all platforms. Rovio plans to use the cartoon series to increase engagement in those games.
