Amazon may be announcing tomorrow at Santa Monica, Calif. the sequel to its Kindle Fire branded tablet but the attention is shifting more to the company’s looming debut of a smartphone handset.

The online retail company is reportedly cooking up a new mobile phone that will run a variant of the Kindle Fire’s Android platform to give the device the ability to use the Internet and App market. This upcoming phone will also include Nokia Maps.

Rumours that Amazon is releasing a smart phone device already prop up since last year and it is again stealing some PR storm from other companies in the handset and tablet space.

Recent reports are indicating that an Amazon smartphone is now in a work-in-progress stage but Amazon will still be showing the phone in its Santa Monica media event.

Amazon will come up with an updated Kindle Fire and a new back-lit Kindle e-reader but there are little contention on the screen size of the new models since the company already hinted on impressing users with specifications and features and affordability.

Amazon is likely releasing two new 7-inch models that come with faster processor, integrated camera, and an HDMI port and physical volume buttons.

If all the rumours are indeed true, then Amazon’s entry in the smartphone market will disrupt a terrain that is widely-dominated by Apple and Samsung, backed by the competition it gave to the dominant iPad.
