Mobile phone sales in Australia have reached an all time high, with the latest research revealing that there are now more mobile phones in operation than the current population.

Mobile phone usage has increased by 7.6% in the last year, with 21.26 million phones now in use.

The report, from the Australian Communications and Media Authority, was tabled in Parliament by Senator Conroy and had further revelations such as: there are now 4.5 million 3G phones in use an increase of 192%. Meanwhile fixed line use dropped from 11.26million to 10.92 million.

internet subscriptions are also on the rise – with 6.43 million connections nationwide.
