Windows 7 for 2009?

Thinking about upgrading to Vista – why bother when ‘Windows 7’ is tipped for release in 2009…

Speaking at a seminar on corporate Philanthropy in Miami last Friday, Bill Gates Co founder of Microsoft Corp. revealed that Window users could expect the next version of the operating system, code named Windows 7, as soon as 2009.

Gates’ comments have startled the technology community given that Microsoft previously expected to announce their next operating system some 3 years after the introduction of Vista (launched Jan 2007). However a Micorsoft company spokeswoman said Gates’ comments are in line with a development cycle that usually releases a test version of the software before its official launch date.

Speaking of the new product at the seminar Gates offered the following: “I’m super-enthused about what it will do in lots of ways. That’ll be sometime in the next year or so that we’ll have a new version”.

Gates claims the new product will revolutionize the mobile phone/ computer experience – with a touch surface display being one of the main new features.
