Optus has launched the Who’s Who Tonefor its prepaid mobile customers on the Optus Dollar Days offer.

So what is the Who’s Who Tone and how does it work? Basically most Telco’s offer better rates when you are calling another mobile phone that is on their network. However, most people do not know if the person they are calling is on the network or not. Who’s Who Tone tells you if the mobile you are calling is on Optus.

Optus sees it as a cost-saving measure because it supposedly gives you the option of not calling somebody if they are not on the same network. While the idea behind the product is good, the practicalities might be a bit of a further stretch. After all, if you need to make a call, you need to make a call.
