While Optus is hitting users with a price hike, Vodafone is dropping its mobile broadband prices. The carrier has slashed its 1GB mobile broadband by $10 per month, to $19.95 for customers that sign up for 24 months.

New customers will no longer need to be Vodafone Mobile subscribers to apply for the 5GB plan at $39.95. Equipment charges will also be waived when they sign up for a two year contract..

Excess data will cost 10 cents per megabyte on both plans.

A Vodafone spokesperson suggested the new pricing was a response to the current credit crisis in the US.

“Certainly in this market consumers are tightening their belts… we wanted to make our pricing as accessible as possible.”
