UPDATED! New Nintendo DS soon

New Nintendo DS on the way with a 3 megapixel camera, SD card slot, and better sound than before.

UPDATED!

The new Nintendo DS will be the Nintendo DSi with a 3 megapixel camera built-in, a second VGA camera likely for video chat, larger screen size at 3.25 inches compared to 3 inches, and better audio than before. The Game Boy Advance Slot at the bottom does get removed but we are going to see an SD card slot added as well as the inclusion of proper internal memory for use with the DSi Shop, a place where you can buy games and other things to use on your DS.

Interestingly, this isn’t a replacement but rather a new version of the DS.

We’re hearing reports that places outside of Japan won’t get it until 2009 but we’re unsure based on how this will affect the DS Lite sales around the Christmas season.

Original:My Nintendo DS is old. I have the model now named by fans as the DS Phat, the larger silver original body that was not ultra-hip or sexy in the way people carry them around now.

But all of this is about to change.

Tomorrow might be NDS-Day with news swirling that tomorrow the new Nintendo DS will be announced to the world. Expected to come equipped with a decent camera and music playback, the rumours have been running wild for the better half of a month and suggest this new Nintendo console could be a contender for an iPod killer.

This all sort of goes with that everyone is expecting with Christmas coming up and Nintendo definitely not missing out on that. Plus, expect it to be backwards compatible with the rest of the DS line-up as that’s just what Nintendo does.
