Finally Australian iTunes users will get a service that many of our overseas compadres have had for years – the ability to buy TV episodes from iTunes.

Local iTunes users will be able to feast their eyes upon episodes of Australian content and overseas productions, with the ABC, Seven and Nine Networks coming to the download party…

ABC shows on offer will include Summer Heights High, We Can Be Heroes, Double the Fist, Foreign Correspondent Postcards, Sleek Geeks and Surfing the Menu. Nine has offerd up local productions such as McLeod’s Daughters and Sea Patrol – whilst the Seven Network has added Grey’s Anatomy and Lost to their list.
Each episode will cost $2.99 to download.

“We’re thrilled to bring television programming to the iTunes Store in Australia,” Eddy Cue, Apple iTunes vice-president, said in a statement. “We’re off to a great start with shows from Australia’s top networks combined with favourites from the US.”

Hopefully movie downloads (as offered in other nations around the globe) will be next on the iTunes menu…
