Tropic Thunder has knocked Dark Knight from its perch at the top of the box office. The film cracked the $3 million mark at Australian cinemas over the weekend.

Tropic Thunder is billed as an action comedy and features hilarious performances from some of the comedy world’s biggest acts such as Ben Stiller and Jack Black.

The irreverent comedy grossed AUD$3.05 million over the weekend with ‘The Dark Knight’ taking second place with box office takings of AUD$1.3 million. The plot centres on a group of self-absorbed actors who set out to make the biggest war film ever. After ballooning costs (and the out of control egos of the pampered cast) threaten to shut down the movie, the frustrated director refuses to stop shooting, leading his cast deep into the jungles of Southeast Asia for “increased realism,” where they inadvertently fall prey to real bad guys who take them hostage.

Tropic Thunder is now showing at the movies.
