Toshiba today announced the availability of the new Encore tablet in Australia.

The Encore is an 8-inch tablet that is optimised to run Windows 8.1. It also sports the latest Intel quad-core Bay Trail-T chip with 2GB LPDDR3 memory on-board. There’s also an Intel HD graphics, an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front-facing camera that are both capable of capturing 1080p videos.

Being a Windows 8.1 machine, the Encore will come with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013. Moreover, Microsoft is adding 7GB-worth of free online SkyDrive storage for fast access and synchronisation with other Windows devices. There’s either 32GB or 64GB of memory and has a battery life of up to 7 hours.

Microsoft Xbox is also a present in the Encore, which gives users free music streaming service for 90 days with an unlimited access to 30 million songs as well as a selection of free Xbox games.  Users can also use the Encore to share their favourite content between screens, transforming the tablet into a second display for the Xbox 360 or the Xbox One using Xbox SmartGlass.

The Toshiba Encore will be available in Australia starting early November from $399 including GST and will be available through selected retailers and business notebook specialists.
