The Trons score Mercedes gig

When Greg Locke started tinkering with recycled computer parts to build a robotic band, the Kiwi inventor didn’t realise his creation would become a YouTube sensation.
Nor did he suspect that his robotic band would be courted by Mercedes Benz then flown across the globe to appear at the Paris Autoshow. But that’s exactly what has happened…

Speaking with The Times, Locke commented:
“Mercedes-Benz’s PR company got in touch with me about a month ago after somehow seeing a song on YouTube, so it has been all go getting flight cases made, and generally just working out how to get a band of quite fragile robots over to the other side of the globe.”

The gig for Mercedes is not The Trons first. The robotic band have already toured New Zealand’s South Island…

“It was a lot of driving but went really well, with excellent crowds and just really great atmospheres,” said Locke. “It’s cool they don’t get tired of playing stuff and I’ve only had to replace one motor after about 50,000 (guitar) strums.”
