Telstra is threatening to take Optus to court over its claims that the 3G iPhone will be available to 96 percent of the population via its network.

According to Telstra, the claims by Optus chief executive Paul O’ Sullivan that “more iPhone users can enjoy 3G services as we expand our network to 96 per cent of the population by December 2008 and 98 per cent by December 2009” are misleading as the iPhone is not compatible with the 900MHz Optus network to which Mr O’Sullivan was referring.

Telstra lawyer Jennifer Crichton has faxed a warning to the Optus legal department.
