A 43-year-old woman has been jailed for killing her virtual ex-husband.
A piano teacher has been jailed for accessing a computer illegally and destroying electronic data in a revenge attack to get back at her virtual husband.
The 43-year-old teacher had been divorced by her virtual partner inside the online game Maple Story. She accessed his account using his ID and password and deleted his online persona.
“I was suddenly divorced, without a word of warning. That made me so angry,” said the woman as she admitted the allegations to authorities. A spokesman for the Sapporo police said no revenge in real life had been planned.
The woman was arrested on Wednesday and taken from her home in southern Miyazaki to be detained in Sapporo, where the man lives, the official said.
She has not yet been formally charged, but could face up to five years imprisonment or a fine of US $5000.
This isn’t the first case in America. A woman was charged in the US state of Delaware in August for planning to kidnap a boyfriend who she met through virtual reality website Second Life.
