Samsung takes page from BlackBerry’s book with weird new clip-on keyboard

Prolific leaker Evan Blass has revealed what he says is a clip-on keyboard cover for Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The keyboard appears to plug into the new phablet's micro USB port, covers about a fourth of the screen, and replicates key functionality such as the phone's three hardware buttons.

It is unclear whether the keyboard cover will be sold as an optional accessory, or included with the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. Blass did not confirm whether the keyboard is exclusive to the Galaxy S6 Edge, or if a Galaxy Note 5 model will also be made available.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus on Friday alongside the Galaxy Note 5. The S6 Edge Plus is rumoured to be a super-sized version of the Galaxy S6 Edge, featuring a curved screen rather than the stylus traditionally found in Samsung's larger phones.

Rumours suggest the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will share its internals with the Galaxy Note 5; a Samsung-made eight-core processor with four 2.1GHz cores and four 1.5GHz cores, a 5.66-inch Quad HD display, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. The phablet's front and rear cameras are pegged at 5MP and 16MP respectively – the same resolution as found in the Galaxy S6.

Neither the S6 Edge Plus nor the Note 5 are expected to have expandable storage or a removable battery.

Blass also expects Samsung to unveil a new smartwatch.
