Review: Netgear AC1200 WiFi Range Extender

The AC1200 WiFi Range Extender is the cream of the crop when it comes to Netgear’s line of home WiFi extenders. While the majority of Netgear’s other WiFi range extenders are simple devices that plug straight into a power outlet, the AC1200 is aesthetically much more in line with what you’d expect from a modem or router. As such, it also packs a punch and is reportedly the first dual core WiFi extender on the market.

Unboxing & Design

The Netgear AC1200 looks like it was destined not to sit in the corner of a home or office, but to be a prop in a science fiction film. Built from a stylish mix of glossy red and black plastic, and ornamented with repeating triangle cut-outs, the AC1200 definitely isn’t your average piece of networking tech. The extender can be used either horizontally or vertically, but can be a little unstable when sitting upright. The AC1200 is very prone to fingerprints.

Alongside the AC1200, Netgear have included a stand, two detachable antennas and a power adapter. A one page quick-start guide is also provided, as well as more detailed manual.
