Phone turned into disease scanner

Phones don’t normally come with the ability to tell if you’re sick but with a few modifications… voila!

Most people use phones to make phone calls, send SMS’s, take pictures, and listen to music. How many people want to find out if they’re sick with their phone?

At the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), Dr. Aydogan Ozcan has hacked up a Sony Ericsson mobile phone and turned it into a blood analyser. Using a filtered light source, the portable disease scanner looks at the cells in a different light and as a result is able to detect diseases like HIV.

Bet your iPhone can’t do that.
