The Wii is possibly Nintendo’s most profitable products as of late. In fact, the Wii is currently outselling the company’s current flagship console – the Wii U.

However, this trend may soon come to an end as Nintendo has announced on its website that it will soon cease the production of Wii consoles. Although not clearly stated when, Microsoft made the announcement on its Japanese website where the product page of the Nintendo Wii states that manufacturing is scheduled to end soon.

Nintendo also hasn’t made an official global announcement yet, so it remains to be seen if the company will only close its Wii production lines in Japan. Seeing that Nintendo is starting to phase out the Wii console in its home country is a good indication that other countries would be next.

Nevertheless, maybe the Wii has really reached the end of the line. Anyway, the console has been with us for the past 7 or 8 years now, right? And maybe it’s finally time for the Wii U to take its place. What do you think?
