Nintendo Shuts Down Zelda Film

Hero of Time, a movie based on the popular DS game, Zelda, has had its distribution pulled by Nintendo.

A post on the production house BMB website reads, “We just wanted to let you know that Dec. 31 was the last day that The Hero of Time was available for viewing. We came to an agreement with Nintendo earlier this month to stop distributing the film. In the spirit of the holiday season they were good enough to let us keep the movie up for you to watch and enjoy through the end of 2009, but not past 2009.

It seems Nintendo is trying to protect its copyrights of the characters, which is fair enough. It is a pity that the studio and gaming giant could not come to some sort of licensing agreement – the studio might make a bit of money out of it, and Nintendo would get more PR for the franchise.

BMB has only itself to blame if it’s annoyed at all the working hours it put into making the online movie – copyright is sacrosanct for any venture, especially those in the entertainment industry.
