Team Australia heads to New York to compete in the LG Mobile World Cup
LG Electronics says Team Australia will be heading to New York to battle it out against the rest of the world in the ultimate texting (SMS) competition – the LG Mobile World Cup. The winning team will receive US$100,000, a trophy and the title of The World’s Fastest Texter’s.
In a final twist of the competition Jian Li, who was crowned Australia’s fastest texter in the LG National Texting Championship last year, will be joined by Paige Gallagher, who was a runner up in the Australian championship. In accordance to the rules of the competition, Jian will compete using a mobile phone with a QWERTY keypad, whilst Paige will compete using an alphanumeric phone.
The Grand Final will be held on 14th January 2010 at the Gotham Hall in Manhattan. To win the competition, Team Australia will have to prove their texting prowess against Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain and the USA. Each country will compete in three rounds, each comprising of five different challenges based around texting.
Jian Li has been practising hard in the lead-up to the Grand Final. “I’m very excited, I can’t wait to go to New York! I’m a bit nervous too,” she said. “I used an LG Xenon GR500F QWERTY phone in the Australian championship, which helped me to text even faster and was really easy to use. Hopefully I can beat my best time so far in New York!”
