Jak and Daxter Trilogy HD Version (PlayStation 3)
By Wayne Webb
Jak and Daxter are back – kind of. The original three games have been given the PS3 makeover and transferred to HD and released as a single package. These games are well-loved classics and are as much fun as they ever were, but now fully compatible with the graphics a PS3 can offer.
To be 100 percent clear, there is nothing new about these games, they are simply transferred to HD and playable on the PS3 as a 3-in-1 game package. They have always scored highly in reviews when they were first around and nothing has changed, they are still great. They have the same characters and are instantly engaging for players of almost any skill level.
There are some ‘buts’ here though. If you’ve played these games and want to return to those halcyon days of gaming by replaying them, have at it, but if you’re looking for something new, move on, there’s nothing to see here. The graphics in the background are fantastic and make for impressive backdrops and scenery. The characters improve over the course of all three games, but there’s no doubt that the blocky and unrefined character models from J & D 1 look clear and impressive in HD, but still very old and outdated. If you have played only one of these games in the past, then this 3-in-1 value package is an awesome buy and there is every reason to get and finish all of these amazing games.
Pros: Three classics given an HD refurbish, still fun after all these years, backgrounds look amazing, value for money.
Cons: Character textures can look dated, played all three before.
