After last week’s announcement that Vodafone would be selling the iPhone in Australia, a second mobile carrier has been announced for the highly coveted handset.

In a statement to the media today, Optus revealed that Optus, SingTel, Bharti Airtel and Globe have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Singapore, India, the Philippines and Australia later this year.

Australia is not the first country to get a non exclusive carrier deal – last week two carriers were announced for the iPhone in Italy – marking a move a way from the exclusive deals seen upon the phones release in the UK and US. In Australia, it is still not known whether the iPhone will be locked to Optus or Vodafone . An Australian release date is yet to be announced although a 3G version of the phone is still tipped to be announced a t Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference in June.
