The rumour mill is piling on speculation that the HTC One X 5 or Droid Incredible X will be in fact the next Google Nexus 5, according to a tip received by GSMArena.com.

Some specs have even been passed on including a whopping 5-inch 1080p display! Other specs include a Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, a 12-megapixel camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper and a 64GB of internal memory storage. It will also use a 2,500 mAh battery and will offer LTE connectivity.

According to the source, the device will run on Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 and bring improvements to Project Butter, more lock screen options, and additional minor improvements.

However, there are reports that speculate the release would probably come along with the launch of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie instead of a Jelly Bean tweak.

Early rumours have jumped back and forth between the major Android manufacturers such as Samsung, Motorola, LG and HTC as potential partners for Google's next Nexus phone.

It wouldn’t be a surprise though if HTC does indeed turn up to be right contender. HTC handsets pioneered the early versions of Android. The T-Mobile G1 was the first ever Android phone, while the Google Nexus One, which introduced Android 2.0, was also built by HTC.
