Tech Wired’s request to see the Federal Government’s report on the $15 billion national broadband project (NBN) has been denied.
The website requested the report – which was conducted by an expert panel under the behest of Communications Minister Stephen Conroy – via the Freedom of Information Act. This week, the Department for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy denied the request to access the report, saying the documents were exempt under sections 34 and 36 of the Freedom of Information Act.
Exemptions under sections 34 and 36 relate to documents produced for the purposes of cabinet consideration and those which are not in the public’s interest to be disclosed.
Senator Conroy says the full report will be made available once the negotiation process was complete and the NBN contract has been awarded.
