Retailers are hoping the Federal Government’s 10.4 billion stimulus package will encourage consumers back into the shops for a Pre-Christmas blow out.

Sellers of electronic goods and IT have been particularly affected by the recent downturn in the economy and hope some of the !0.4 billion will flow back to stores.

Retail giant Gerry Harvey of Harvey Norman is predicting sales for December will lift by 3-4 percent after the government’s cash injection.

“We won’t know the overall effect of this package on our sales figures until the end of December. If sales figures stop dropping and it goes back square, we’ll know the stimulus package has had a positive effect.”
