Tomorrow, May 25 marks the 36th anniversary of the first ever Star Wars movie – Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The film which was originally released as Star Wars is a 1977 American epic space opera film written and directed by George Lucas is considered by many as an icon in the realm of science fiction movies characterized by its groundbreaking use of special effects, unconventional editing and a science fiction/fantasy story telling.
The film was produced with a budget of $11 million and was released on May 25, 1977. The film earned a whopping $460 million in the United States and $314 million worldwide, which in today’s standards will put the film as the third-highest grossing movie in the world as of 2012.
The film and the entire movie series has also created a cult following and has produced an industry of collectibles, memorabilia and multimedia that is valued in millions (if not billions) of dollars. So in celebration of this milestone, Cybershack is showcasing 15 of the coolest and quirkiest gadgets and other items inspired by the Star Wars movie franchise as part of this week’s Fancy Fridays.
