Clarion Opts For Navteq Maps

Clarion in-car entertainment systems to come with Navteq maps

Already trying to digest that GPS technology can be uploaded to smartphones, the SatNav market will no doubt be raising its collective eyebrow at the news that some new Clarion entertainment systems will be coming with Navteq maps installed – further eroding sole GPS device manufacturer’s market.

Clarion’s launch into navigation in Australia will commence with the Clarion NX509A all-in-one AVN (audio visual navigation) unit and NP509A hide-away navigation system. In addition to the map, Navteq is providing advanced content, which is claimed to enable drivers a stress-free navigation experience, saving time, fuel and frustration.

The devices come with preloaded maps as well as additional Navteq content: visual content (3D landmarks and junction view images); speed limit information to enable warnings of potential speed violations; and extended lane information to guide drivers into the most appropriate lane as they approach complex intersections.

Bringing the maps to life, NAVTEQ’s collection of Points of Interest (POI) in over 50 categories help drivers find what they need, be it an ATM, petrol station, hotel or restaurant and numerous other key locations.

Consumers can update their maps when they visit their local Clarion dealer. With freeways, bypasses, tunnels and bridges changing every year, having the latest maps help navigation systems operate at their best to generate more efficient routes.
