We’ve heard of Miss World, Miss Universe, well what about Miss Sister?
An Italian priest is organising an online beauty pageant for nuns in the hopes of combating the stereotype that nuns are all homely old ladies…

The Miss Sister 2008 pageant will give nuns from around the world a chance to show off their work and image.

Commenting on his grand plan to unveil a nun as a Beauty Queen, the Reverend Antonio Rungi remarked:

“Being ugly is not a requirement for becoming a nun. External beauty is a gift from God, and we mustn’t hide it. Nuns are a bit excluded. They are a bit marginalised in ecclesiastical life. This will be an occasion to make their contribution more visible,” he said.

People hoping to catch a glimpse of Jesus’ many wives in their scanties will be unhappy however as there will be no bathing contest…

Instead Reverend Rungi is encouraging visitors to his blog to vote for the nun they consider a model.

Not everyone is happy with the idea however, an association of Catholic teachers has critcised the contest for belittling the role of nuns.

The competition is set to start in September.
