According to a report from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) more than two thirds of Australian mobile phone users with 3G capable phones never use the 3G services.

Of those surveyed, more than half cited lack of interest in the 3G offerings (such as video calling, video streaming, mobile TV, and Mobile internet) whilst the others suggested the high cost of the service was a deterrent and they did not know how to access the services.

While 90% of the households surveyed had a fixed phone line, more than 50% said they preferred to make their calls on their mobile.

On April 30 the ACMA revealed the number of mobile phones in use in Australia now exceeds the nation’s population.
