Australian Review: Samsung R-series 360-degree wireless multiroom speakers – A new angle

Samsung likes to keep a finger in every pie. Whether it's TVs, smartphones, tablets, wearables, appliances, vacuum cleaners, smart home doohickies, cameras, or solid state drives, you can bet Samsung makes at least one. Wireless speakers are however an area where Samsung is still very much a new player, having only introduced its first devices in 2014.

A lot has happened since then, including the construction of a brand new Los Angeles-based audio lab said to be "on par or better than anyone else's in the industry today". The R-series are the first devices to come out of the facility.

I've been told that Samsung's latest speakers represent a commitment to the company becoming a world leader in audio, so needless to say, I was quite curious to see how the R-series stacked up.

I was provided with R1 (WAM1500) and R5 (WAM5500) speakers for the purposes of this review. The R1 is Samsung's new entry level speaker, while the R5 sits at the high-end. They’re priced at AUD$299 and AUD$649 respectively, although can be easily be found for AUD$249 and AUD$549 at local retailers.
