Aussies pay too much for mobile roaming?

Communications Minister Senator Conroy has ordered the House of Representatives standing committee to look into the costs of mobile roaming chargers by Australian phone carriers.

Communications Minister Senator Conroy has ordered the House of Representatives standing committee to look into the costs of mobile roaming chargers by Australian phone carriers.

Following on from a meeting held at APEC earlier this year, where Conroy told telecommunications ministers that the cost of mobile roaming was becoming excessive, the Senator has made good on his promise to introduce a new inquiry on the fees.

The standing committee will follow-up on an inquiry carried out by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission in 2005. The 2005 ACCC report believed that consumers were being squeezed bu the anti competitiveness of the market including lack of consumer information and alternatives.
