Artificial life created out of human genome

Taking a page out of science fiction, Craig Venter, one of the scientists that had a part in deciphering the human genome, has created a new form of chromosome.

Putting together 580,000 base pairs of genetic code has yielded Craig an artificial life form that – while still reliant on a host cell to replicate – is still a new form of life.

The new synthetic life is named Mycoplasma Genitalium Bacterium and could lead to other breakthroughs later on in life.

…or it could be an insane chromosome with plans to dominate the Earth!!!

But no, seriously, discoveries like this are sure to help future generations.
