A new watch could just save your life

While it’s not a time machine, the Seismic Watch can receive Japan’s “Earthquake Early Warning” radio service and warn you of the impending quake. The moment your hour hand starts speeding up, your minute and second hands will count down to the estimated arrival of the earthquake.

Time piece makers Citizen are working on a new system designed to give Japanese residents a little more time.

While it’s not a time machine, the Seismic Watch can receive Japan’s “Earthquake Early Warning” radio service and warn you of the impending quake. The moment your hour hand starts speeding up, your minute and second hands will count down to the estimated arrival of the earthquake.

It won’t be available until 2010 but might be a handy watch to have if you’re touring Japan and fear for your life.
