Last year we demonstrated Augmented Reality on the Samsung Galaxy S showing how a search for something like a restaurant or bar is displayed as computer-generated information layered over the physical world.

This year there were a few interesting items including Raptyrs, which look like normal sunglasses, but they pack a holographic optics engine and six-megapixel camera. As you walk around, you simultaneously see the real world and computer generated info.

Canadian-based Recon Instruments is based in British Columbia, has some ski googles with a built-in GPS, which will display your speed, altitude, height, temperature, time and of course GPS location. You can also hook it up to a computer later to download GPS tracked records of your run. Called ‘Transcend’, the goggles are currently in limited release stage…one to watch.

Over at the Sony Booth eye wear also featured and with long queues of people eager to try some new technology it looked more like a casting studio for TRON. They were demonstrating their prototype – the very futuristic looking personal 3D Theatre goggles, called the Headman.
