CES is not really the place to show off new cars, but it’s the best place to reveal new car accessories, and at the Pioneer stand, we got a glimpse into the future of motoring.

The head’s up display is a prototype and is Pioneer’s vision for the future, where looking down at your dash is officially old school.

Although a prototype, Pioneer is speaking to car companies, and it appears the display will take the information from an Android-based smartphone. The potential benefits in navigation, safety and avoiding traffic congestion are obvious.

iPhone cradles aren’t new, but hardly any are made by companies with the resources and know-how of Pioneer. Once you connect it to the dashboard of your car, it acts as a booster for some of your iPhones functions and apps. The smart cradle also features an in built speaker and microphone to facilitate hands free calls.
