With the recent rise of 3D TVs adding another dimension to our viewing habits, 2011 will mark year that TV’s found their IQ. That’s right, your humble TV is about to get a whole lot smarter.

Something that caught our eye at the show was the Samsung Smart TV range, which comes with full web browsing, wi fi and built-in media search functions, and all of it is translated in your Smart Hub. Smart Hub has separate places for your apps, social networking and on demand TV. The remote has been upgraded to a serious piece of kit. The benefits of having a screen on your TV remote mean never missing a moment of the big game with “clone view”.

Controlling the advancements on TVs was on a few peoples’ minds. The Tivo Slide is a remote which slides out a full QWERTY keybord, providing a genuine keyboard experience without the need to grab the keyboard from your PC to surf the web on a television.

All these new enabling technologies may increase your power consumption so here’s a technology we accept is not as sexy as some, but extremely useful in a world of rising energy costs. Thinkeco’s modlet is a plug that communicates wirelessly with a PC through a USB key. An easy to follow display shows users how much power a device is sucking, and also helps run a schedule when using the product.
