Microsoft today announced that the preview version of its latest OS update – Windows 8.1 is now available for download.

New features of Windows 8.1 include an improved selection of tile sizes, more customisations in terms of wallpapers and support for side by side apps, Miracast and multi-monitor setups. Microsoft has also brought back the classic Start button on Windows 8.1 but unlike its predecessors, the button doesn’t function as a start menu but only as a button to go back to the Start Screen.

Another improvement of Windows 8.1 over the company’s current OS is the incorporation of Bing Search into the operating system. There’s also a new feature called Bing Heroes which presents a full-screen interface filled with images, video or audio content for a search query.

Microsoft has also revamped some of its apps to provide users with a more coherent user experience. Some of the apps that received notable updates include Mail, the camera app, Xbox Music and of course Internet Explorer 11 which makes a debut in this release.

If you’re excited to try out Windows 8.1, the preview version is already available for download on Microsoft website.
