Wanna know just how much energy you’re wasting if you leave your TV on all night? If you live in Sydney you may be able to join a trial program to track your energy consumption.

The City of Sydney Council is seeking 100 volunteer households to get an energy monitor installed for free and take control of their electricity consumption and bills.

Energy monitors or smart meters have a wireless visual display unit showing how much electricity is being used at any given time; what it is costing and the associated greenhouse gas emissions generated.

“The energy monitor allows residents to set household reduction targets and better manage their bills – a win for residents’ pockets and the environment,” said the Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.

“These energy monitors are a perfect example of how the City is assisting residents to reduce their environmental footprint – something we all need to be doing to reach our Sustainable Sydney 2030 goals.

“Energy efficiency is vital if we are to tackle climate change and the energy monitor will assist residents identify their consumption patterns and make more informed energy choices.”

House owners and renters as well as apartment dwellers from across the City can register their interest to get involved. 100 households will be selected to take part – sharing their experiences with other residents as they go.
