Sex tops the Box Office

The long awaited feature film version of Sex and the City has walked away with the top spot at the US box office over the weekend

The long awaited feature film version of Sex and the City has walked away with the top spot at the US box office over the weekend – recording sales of $US55.7 million ($58.3 million).

It’s four years since the Sex and the City gals hung up their designer duds but the fervour for the show has not abated. Warner Brothers, the film’s distributors, expected the movie to do around 25 -35 million on its opening weekend so are over the moon with the weekend results.

Sarah Jessica Parker and her pals blitzed the opposition – including Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which had been expected to maintain the number one slot but instead ranked a distant second at US$46 million ($48.1 million).

The Rogue Pictures horror film, The Strangers, kicked off at No.3 with $US20.7 million ($21.7 million), also surpassing predictions.
