Nokia’s Zoom Reinvented event in New York kicked off a few hours ago and as expected, the highly anticipated Nokia Lumia 1020 was finally unveiled by no other than the company CEO himself, Stephen Elop.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 sports a 41-megapixel autofocus PureView camera with a 1/1.5” BSI sensor with 6-lens Zeiss optics with optical image stabiliser, LED flash for video shooting and Xenon flash. The phone’s camera can snap 40MP and 5MP photos at the same time – one taken straight off the camera and the other one is a compressed image after Super sampling has been applied.

Nokia has also equipped the Lumia 1020 with a few software improvements including a Pro Camera and Smart Camera lens app that allows users to change the camera settings in order to get the most out of its hardware. The Lumia 1020 even has a full manual mode which is quite rare for a phone as it is usually seen in pro-grade cameras.

As for its other hardware specifications, the Lumia 1020 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset with a 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU and Adreno 225 GPU. There’s 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory which is not expandable. But as a consolation, Microsoft is giving 7GB of free SkyDrive storage for additional storage.

The phone features a 4.5-inch ClearBlack AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280×768 pixels and features Nokia’s PureMotion HD+ and Super Sensitive Touch technologies. Other notable features of the phone include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, NFC, LTE and GPS with GLONASS.

The Lumia 1020 will be powered by a 2000mAh battery and will last 16 days on standby mode and provide 13.3 hours of talk time. The phone will be available in white, yellow and black and will start shipping by the end of the quarter to China and other key European markets. There’s no information yet on when the phone will reach Australia but we’ll update our website once we get more details.
