Carrier-branded Android phones usually make it difficult to install a custom ROM without some serious hacker activity.

However, in a bid to attract people who want unlock a bootloader, Motorola has come out with the Atrix HD Developer Edition, which comes with an unlockable bootloader.

This feature allows infinite customisation possibilities. Motorola is even offering step-by-step directions on unlocking things should you want to play with the ROM.

There’s a downside though. Motorola won't allow users to unlock the bootloader without voiding your warranty first.

The Atrix HD sports a 4.5-inch screen with a 1,280 x 720 pixels ColorBoost display, a dual core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and an 8-megapixel camera with full HD recording capability.

Other features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB, 1GB of RAM, 8GB on-board storage, a microSD card slot and a 1780mAh battery.

No pricing and release date yet.

The Developer Editions of the Droid RAZR M and Droid RAZR HD are already readily available, so it probably won’t be long before the Motorola Atrix HD Developer Edition catches up.
