More than 100,000 laptop battery packs are being recalled after reports of a certain Sony lithium ion battery pack made in Japan and used in HP, Dell and Toshiba laptops catching fire.

More than 100,000 laptop battery packs are being recalled after reports of a certain Sony lithium ion battery pack made in Japan and used in HP, Dell and Toshiba laptops catching fire.

According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald, Sony has blamed adjustments on the manufacturing line and a possible flaw in the electrodes as the cause of the issue. Batteries affected by the issue were mad in Japan between October 2004 to June 2005

The bulk of computers affected by the issue have been HP laptops sold in the US and shipped between December 2004 and June 2006 including HP Pavilion HP Compaq and Compaq Presario. Some Dell Insprion and Toshiba Satellite and Tecra laptops have also been affected.
