Rumours are now circulating that HTC and Amazon are teaming up for the development of the Amazon smartphone.

According to a report for the Financial Times, the two companies are now at an advanced stage of development on one of three proposed devices. The report adds that Amazon has previously postponed the project, so we can’t rule out that Amazon will be doing the same this time around.

As with other rumours about the Amazon phone, both companies decline to give any comment about the report, with HTC’s Chief Marketing Officer Ben Ho saying that HTC is exploring new opportunities for the company.

An Amazon smartphone may have huge implications for both HTC and Amazon. For starters, just like its Kindle Fire tablets, Amazon will finally be able to get a foothold on the mobile phone market and get something to compete against the Samsung’s Galaxy Line and Apple’s iPhones.

HTC on the other hand certainly needs all the financial help it can get, given the fact that it has faced a number of mishaps in the past including supply chain issues for its One Mini handset and a huge loss in profit for the last quarter.
