Google is reportedly prepping a rewards program for mobile users who will allow Google to track their web and app usage.

According to reports, the program will use a so-called “Mobile Meter” app for Android and iOS users to “compensate” those who will allow their web and app usage data to be sent back to Google for analysis.

Unlike the usual way of sending data to Google’s servers, users will be ask to opt in into the program rather than opt out. Furthermore, sources say that the program is actually an on-going project and that they already have an existing set of participants.

Unfortunately, Google is refusing to comment on the report, calling it “rumour and speculation”, so there won’t be any information about how each user will be compensated as well as which metric it will track.
